Fibromyalgia Cookbook: A Daily Guide To Becoming Healthy Again

Book Description

For those of us with fibromyalgia, life as we knew it has changed drastically. We know and understand all too well the symptoms and complaints we share. We are also painfully aware of the lifestyle changes that have taken place since the onset of our symptoms. For me, those symptoms started almost 35 years ago, long before the term "fibromyalgia" was in my physician's vocabulary. As with most of us, the symptoms seemed to gradually consume every part of my being. However, it wasn't until my then nine year old daughter was diagnosed with fibromyalgia that I became serious about trying to combat the effects of this illness. On many occasions I had mentioned to my husband that life might not be worth living if I had to live it in the extreme pain and with the overwhelming symptoms of fibromyalgia. But it was especially disturbing to imagine my daughter possibly developing those same feelings. So, with my daughter's well being acting as a powerful motivator, I set out on a long, challenging, and yes, ultimately rewarding journey to wellness.

Today my daughter and I share predominately symptom free, healthful lives. I am now able to do, at 45 years of age, more than I was able to do at 30 years of age, and I feel like a "million dollars" most of the time. My daughter is as active and energetic as any other "normal" 13-year-old. It hasn't been easy, there were no "magic pills" to take to make the symptoms go away. There were, however, many result oriented steps which were discovered, which lead to a natural, healthful control of the symptoms of fibromyalgia.

This book, Fibromyalgia Cookbook: A Daily Guide to Becoming Healthy Again, has no recipes in the classical sense of the term. It does, however, have one dramatic life changing "recipe". This recipe gives you back your life. A wide variety of information is provided covering the areas of sleep, pain, exercise and much more. And through the use of a 120-day step by step guide, you will move from whatever your condition is now to the beginnings of a new found healthful existence. The guide includes a daily checklist which keeps you on course and motivated, regardless of how "foggy" your brain is! In addition, each day has a page dedicated to a journal which you will keep in order to document the gradual and joyously positive, progress. I found journalizing to be particularly important to me, as I would sometimes forget how much progress I had made. For example there was a time that I could not make the bed without sitting down to rest before, during and after the project. Through journalizing I was able to see how I gradually required fewer rest periods until they eventually became unnecessary.

Be prepared to work at your recovery and to dig in for the long haul. It took many years to get to the point of devastation that I once was at, so it is not surprising that it took almost a year for me to become totally symptom free. The time and effort was well worth it. I will never go back to those symptoms again and you won't want to either!

Workbook of "positive possibility focused" support groups.

I am pleased to say that this book has been adopted by many fibromyalgia support groups nationwide. It provides a track for group members to run on while beginning the process which culminates in reclaimed lives. I will have to say that I was somewhat surprised at this development as my own healing process did not involve the help of a support group. Many support groups seem to focus on "coping and complaining," and I don't have time for that. Thank goodness there now are support groups which concentrate on the positive! These are the groups buying my book. One final note: This book is written in a simplistic, repetitive style. Inother words, it was written with brain fog in mind. (Pun Intended) Hope to see you soon in the land of the living!
